Phyllis Brooks

We are excited to highlight our amazing and interesting members who contribute in so many ways to our wonderful church and community.  Please check monthly for a new member's profile, so that the next time you see them in church, at one of our events or around town, feel free to say hello and introduce yourself.


Sister Phyllis B. Brooks

Phyllis joined Orange Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church at a young age and has been faithful thus far.  Phyllis serves on the Pastor Aide Ministry, Missionary Auxiliary, Program Ministry for Announcements on Sundays and Kitchen Ministry.

Graduated from Central High School in Hillsborough, North Carolina.  Phyllis worked with J. Spencer Love Hosiery Mill in Burlington, NC for 7 years.  In 1973 she started her employment with UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC and retired in 2004 after 30 years of service.

Phyllis loves to give back to the community through involvement with people and civic organizations.  She is a member and the Treasurer of Ridge Road Extension and Community Association, Inc. Club; works with the Voting Committee, Local and State Primary campaigns; and actively involved with the Northern Orange Branch of the NAACP.

In 1998 Phyllis was Crowned Mother of the Year “local level” for Northern Orange Branch of the NAACP and the Statewide Final Contest winner and awarded the 2012 Sertoma Service to Mankind Award for Significant and Meritorious Service to Mankind by Hillsborough Sertoma Club.

Phyllis also have been a sitting Companion for elders in the community, she helped care for her father, mother and aunt until their passing away.  She loves to help in the community where it is needed.

Phyllis is currently working part-time with the Department on Aging-Jerry Passmore Center in Hillsborough, NC, was cross trained with Seymour Center in Chapel Hill, NC.

Phyllis’s favorite pastime is traveling now that she is retired.
